Bacteria Levels at Will Rogers Beach Meet State Standards
Bacteria levels at Will Rogers State Beach “meet state standards,” according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.
The water is tested Tuesday through Saturday, according to the county website, and a clickable map of bacteria levels in local beaches is available at this link. Bacteria levels are high within 100 yards in either direction of Santa Monica Pier, Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu, and Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach. Swimming, surfing, and playing are discouraged as unsafe at these beaches.
During and after rain, beaches also pose a danger. “Bacteria levels can increase significantly during and after rainstorms, as contaminants within the runoff enters the ocean,” according to the county website. “Bacteria levels may remain elevated up to 3 days depending upon the intensity of the rain and the volume of runoff.”
