The bike path along Will Rogers State Beach has been reopened, and there will no longer be National Guard checkpoints, according to Pacific Palisades Community Council Representative Sharon Killbride.
Kilbride attended a press conference this afternoon marking 100 days since the Jan. 7 fire and said that L.A. Mayor Karen Bass shared the news about the reopened bike path during the event. In addition, State Sen. Ben Allen and Councilmember Traci Park joined her at the base of Temescal Canyon across from the destroyed mobile home parks of Palisades Bowl and Tahitian Terrace.
Sen. Allen shared that a close family friend had been a resident at one of the mobile home parks, and that he had spent many happy days there.
“This was a vibrant, living, breathing, special community, and you see it here in ruins,” Allen said. “It’s been 100 days of despair, of destruction, but also of resilience and growth and rebuilding, and it’s been 100 days of challenge.”
Councilmember Park mentioned that she had recently returned from Lahaina on Maui, which she visited in order to learn about their recovery progress from their devastating 2023 fire.
“i had the opportunity to see the progress and the recovery being made,” said Park, who has also visited other areas recovering from massive wildfires. “Each of those visits was an opportunity to peek around the corner for what lies ahead in the Pacific Palisades.”
