Experts Craft Guide for L.A. Fire Recovery

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) along with professors at USC and UCLA have created a guide to assist Los Angeles in its recovery from the January wildfires.

The 175-page report can be found at https://knowledge.uli.org/en/reports/research-reports/2025/project-recovery-rebuilding-los-angeles-after-the-january-2025-wildfires, and it will be continuously updated as new data becomes available.

The report “incorporates lessons learned from previous efforts,” including Colorado’s 2021 Marshall Fire and Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey. In addition, “it builds on more than a decade of research and best practices from ULI’s Urban Resilience Program.”

The report features chapters on hazard materials and debris management, speeding the building permit process, labor and supply chain challenges, stabilizing California’s insurance market, and rebuilding infrastructure.
