Suisman Announces Formation of Canyon Traffic Task Force

Canyon Alliance director and SMCCA President Doug Suisman announced the formation of a Canyon Traffic Task Force to monitor and help manage traffic on Canyon Streets during the Palisades reconstruction.

“We’ve all seen and experienced the impact on our Canyon streets of spillover traffic from the checkpoints at Chautauqua and Brooktree/Sunset,” Suisman said. “Our Canyon was spared the worst of the fire, and The Canyon Alliance wholeheartedly supports the rapid reconstruction of the Palisades. At the same time, we have to be prepared for many years of unprecedented construction traffic. The rebuilding of 6,000 homes in one location promises to be the largest single construction project in L.A.’s history. We in the Canyon will feel the impacts, which will only increase in the coming months as reconstruction ramps up. We have to be prepared.”

The task force seeks volunteers who are interested in helping to monitor and report on traffic conditions, Suisman said. They will collaborate with a Pacific Palisades group to install wireless video cameras on strategic private property (upper-floor windows or roofs) so that trouble spots can be identified and conveyed to the community via online platforms, as well as reported to traffic and police officials.

If interested in either joining the task force or offering an upper-floor location for a video camera well-positioned to monitor traffic on an impacted Canyon street, please go to the-canyon.org (http://the-canyon.org) and let The Alliance know by filling out the response form at the bottom of the homepage.
